Time Magazine's Look at How "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Changed Pop Culture Forever.
Star Trek: The Next Generation was THE show my family watched together. Along with my parents and grandparents encouraging me to read voraciously, I attribute much of the development of my imagination to Gene Roddenberry and his vision of the future.
Each of us had our own roles (i.e. favorite characters): my Dad was Commander Riker, my Mom was Counselor Troi, I was Lt. Commander Data, Andrew was Lt. Commander LaForge, Matt was Lieutenant Worf, and Stephen was Ensign Crusher. We talked about the ideas, plots, and themes of the show, and we enjoyed talking about that idea of the future as if it were real.
